Apply for an SIA Licence Badge

Apply for an SIA Licence Badge

What is the next step once you have completed an SIA Security course and have received your certificate? The next part of the process can be a little confusing for some. Here, we will help you understand the process of applying for an SIA Licence.

Once you have passed your SIA Security course and have received your certificate, you will be ready to apply for your SIA Licence. This is done through an online application form and attending a Post Office.

So what are the steps to successfully applying for an SIA Licence without creating unnecessary delays in receiving your SIA Card?

Firstly, we recommend that you check your name on your certificate to ensure that it has been spelt correctly.

Then we recommend that you check that you have all the correct documents prepared and ready to provide as evidence before you begin your application.

You must have an identification document such as a valid passport of any nationality, Biometric Resident Permit, Original UK Birth Certificate or UK Driving Licence (Full or Provisional). Without one of these documents, you will not be able to apply for an SIA Licence Card.

You must also have 2 documents that show your proof of residence in the UK. Ideally, a Bank Statement, Government Letter, NHS Letter, Utility Bill or similar from the last 3 months only.

For a full list of documents please visit the official SIA page

Secondly, ensure that you have got together a list of your previous addresses of residence from the last five years. There cannot be any gaps between homes you have lived at. These can be UK addresses and addresses you have lived abroad.

If you have lived abroad in the last five years, you will need to provide a Criminal Record Certificate as proof to the SIA for that country. You can obtain this from the Country's UK consulate / Embassy by contacting them directly and requesting this.

Have your National Insurance Number ready as it will be required during the application.

Once you have prepared your documents then visit the SIA website

Select 'Register a personal account' and fill your personal details. Please ensure you do not make any mistakes with typing your name, date of birth or other information here as it will cause delays in submitting your application. Ensure that your name has been typed into the correct fields.

Provide a valid e-mail address and telephone number. The email address is essential in receiving information about your application.

Please make a note of your answers for your security questions and your username and password for login.

DO NOT CREATE MULTIPLE NEW ACCOUNTS IF YOU HAVE AN ISSUE WITH LOGIN INTO YOUR ACCOUNT.

You will receive an email to activate your account once you've registed your details. Check for the email and click to activate. Once this is done, go back to the login page and login using your username and password.

Follow the steps and complete the application.

Once the application has been completed you will be able to submit it. Once you have submitted the application, you will receive information with your Reference Number and what documents to take to the Post Office for processing.

Once you have been to the Post Office, you application will be processed and you will receive your SIA Licence within 6 weeks.
